A man who was critically injured after a tree collapsed on him during heavy rains in Thane has died after battling for his life for several days.
The victim, identified as Pandurang Bhuvad, was struck by a falling tree near the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Louiswadi while walking during heavy rainfall earlier this week. He suffered severe head injuries and was admitted to a private hospital, where he remained under treatment. However, after several days of medical care, Bhuvad succumbed to his injuries.
The incident occurred as Thane experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, triggering multiple tree-fall incidents across the city. Civic authorities received numerous complaints related to uprooted trees and fallen branches, prompting disaster management teams to respond at several locations.
Bhuvad's death has once again raised concerns over monsoon preparedness, tree maintenance, and public safety. Residents have called for stricter inspections and timely pruning of hazardous trees to prevent similar tragedies during the rainy season.
