Traffic on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway came to a crawl on Tuesday after a multi-vehicle collision near Cadbury Junction in Thane caused heavy congestion during peak hours.
According to officials, the accident involved multiple vehicles on the Nashik-bound carriageway near the busy Cadbury Junction. The collision led to long queues of vehicles stretching several kilometres, severely affecting commuters travelling towards Thane, Ghodbunder Road and Nashik.
Police, traffic personnel and emergency responders rushed to the spot to clear the damaged vehicles and restore traffic movement. No fatalities were reported in the incident, though authorities are assessing whether anyone sustained injuries.
Traffic was diverted through alternate routes while recovery operations were underway, resulting in significant delays for motorists. Commuters were advised to avoid the affected stretch and use alternative roads until normal traffic flow was restored.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation has been initiated. Authorities urged motorists to drive cautiously, particularly as intermittent rainfall has made road conditions slippery across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
