The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) will soon see a major boost in its transport services. A total of 210 new buses, including 100 CNG, 100 electric and 10 double-decker, will be inducted into the fleet by Diwali.
Accordingly, the Transport Department has informed that the first double-decker bus will be inducted into the passenger service in the first week of May.
Currently, the Thane Transport fleet has 360 buses, which are plying on Thane, Borivali, Mumbai, Bhiwandi, etc.
Out of these, 123 buses are air-conditioned electric buses. Around 2 lakh 30 thousand passengers travel in these buses every day. The Transport Department is getting an income of around Rs 24 to 25 lakhs daily.
As per the provisions of the 15th Finance Commission of the Central Government and under the National Clean Air Mission, electric buses are being made available to promote environment-friendly transport.
Under this, 123 electric buses have already been inducted into the fleet and another 100 electric buses will be inducted in phases. The first 25 of these buses will come into service in June.
The proposal for double-decker buses was made in the transport budget two years ago.
Now its implementation is starting and 10 double-decker buses will be inducted within a year. It has been said that the first bus will run on the Thane to Ghodbunder route in May.
In terms of environment-friendly transport, 100 CNG buses will also be included in the fleet in phases. Therefore, the transport department has expressed confidence that all 210 buses will be fully inducted into service by the coming Diwali.
