Thousands of residents along Ghodbunder Road in Thane faced prolonged power outages on Monday after heavy monsoon rains disrupted electricity supply in several parts of the city.

The blackout affected localities including Kasarvadavali, Anand Nagar, Waghbil, Owala and nearby residential areas, causing inconvenience to residents as electricity remained unavailable for several hours. The outage also impacted water supply in some housing societies and disrupted the functioning of lifts and other essential services.

Officials from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) said the disruption was caused by a transmission line trip near Padgha on the Bhiwandi side following the intense rainfall. Repair teams were immediately deployed to identify the fault and restore power supply on a priority basis.

Residents expressed frustration over recurring power failures during the monsoon, saying repeated outages have become a major concern whenever heavy rain lashes the region. Many took to social media to report the disruption and seek updates on restoration efforts.

The outage came as Thane recorded one of its heaviest spells of monsoon rain this season, leading to widespread waterlogging, fallen trees and disruptions to road traffic across the city. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious as heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the next few days.
