Several parts of Thane will experience a 48-hour water supply disruption starting midnight on Tuesday, June 23, as the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) implements precautionary water rationing measures amid concerns over delayed monsoon rainfall and shrinking water reserves.
The water supply suspension will remain in effect until midnight on Thursday, June 25. The decision was taken following a joint review meeting between civic authorities and the Water Resources Department held on June 19.
According to officials, the move has been prompted by forecasts indicating a delayed monsoon influenced by El Niño and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) weather patterns. Authorities believe conserving water now will help prevent a more severe drinking water shortage later in the season.
The temporary shutdown will affect water supplied through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) network from the Barvi, Jambhul and Shahad water treatment plants.

Municipal officials have also warned that normal water pressure may not return immediately after services resume. Residents could experience low-pressure supply for an additional 24 to 48 hours while the distribution network stabilises.
In its advisory, TMC has appealed to residents to store adequate water before the shutdown begins and use it responsibly during the disruption period.
The civic body has also urged citizens to avoid wastage and cooperate with conservation efforts as authorities work to manage available resources amid uncertainty over rainfall in the coming weeks.
Officials stated that the temporary measure is intended to ensure sufficient water availability should the monsoon remain weak or delayed, helping the city avoid a larger water crisis later in the season.
