The Maharashtra government has granted in-principle approval for a INR 26-crore state-of-the-art shooting range and multi-purpose sports complex at Waghbil in Thane, a project aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure and nurturing future shooting champions.

Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced that the facility will be built on a 2,020-square-metre amenity plot near Hiranandani Estate, with funding from the Urban Development Department led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The multi-storey complex will have a built-up area of around 4,522 square metres.

The sports complex will feature international-standard 10-metre, 25-metre and 50-metre shooting ranges, along with training halls, spectator galleries, player lounges, administrative offices, equipment storage, a cafeteria and basement parking. The facility is expected to serve athletes from Thane, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

Sarnaik said the project is intended to provide aspiring shooters with world-class training facilities and help produce athletes capable of competing at national and international levels. The initiative also seeks to establish Thane as a major hub for shooting sports.
