According to a latest development, the Thane Zilla Parishad is working on mapping around 9500 properties worth thousands of crores spread across the district to create a common digital database to save it from encroachment and ensuing litigation.

The exercise involves mapping of all government-controlled properties in Thane district, including all schools, offices, community centres, playgrounds and open areas.

As part of the effort these properties will be geo-tagged in official records and digitally mapped using drones. The government will always have access to the latest updates regarding the area, ownership or even lease tenure information including any disputes and recent encroachments, through online.

The government aims to compile a comprehensive list of all assets so that we can get instant information about them at the push of a button. Moreover, the government would benefit from using its own lands when initiating a new programme or starting a new facility like schools.

The initiative was approved recently and flagged off by guardian minister Shambhuraj Desai following which the administration will now start work on the same along with a private agency.
