Mumbai: Tomato prices soar at wholesale markets by INR 30-40

Traders said that the price of tomatoes has increased due to the decrease in the arrival of tomatoes from other states and within the state in APMC. Currently only 33 vehicles are entering the market and the price has increased by INR 20 per kg. The prices of tomatoes, which were available at INR 40-50 earlier, have now reached INR 70-80.

Tomatoes are entering the APMC market in Vashi in small quantities. It is being sold at the rate of INR 70-80 per kg in the wholesale market. Tomatoes, which fetched INR 80 per kg in the retail market last week, are being sold at INR 100 per kg. The arrival of tomatoes from Bangalore is completely closed and the arrival from Nashik, Sangli is receiving less goods. Due to this, the inflow in the APMC market has decreased, the traders said.

Only 33 trucks have entered the APMC market on Wednesday and 1804 quintal tomatoes have arrived. At present, the prices of retail vegetables in all the cities of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region have gone up, and now tomatoes are also becoming more expensive.
