Mumbai: BMC to deploy two electric unmanned boats for garbage cleaning near the gateway

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to deploy two electric unmanned boats to collect garbage near the Gateway of India from the first week of June, as per the report by Hindustan Times.

An official said that the boats will be remotely controlled and will be deployed according to the tide. One boat will be deployed at the Gateway and the other at Badhwar Park at Apollo Port, where a large amount of garbage accumulates. These boats, costing INR 1.2 crore each, will use a conveyor belt system to collect up to 1,200 kg of waste.

This is an effort to clean up tourist destinations, improve water quality and marine life, reduce risks to public health, prevent the spread of diseases due to water contamination, and reduce damage to the fishing industry due to waste.
