Mumbai – The Central Election Commission (CEC) will give the receipt after casting your vote in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) during the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. The expected cost of this project is Rs 5,412 crore and Central government has approved Rs 1,009 crore for this initiative.

The contract for this adjustment in the EVMs has been awarded to ECIL and BEL which are undertakings of the Union government. The CEC had conducted many tests in this regard during 2008-2010. The CEC had taken the consent of all the political parties on issuance of the receipt to voters. The CEC has informed this to BJP MP Kirit Somaiya.

The BJP has performed very well in the recently conducted municipal corporation and local governing bodies election in the state. The Shiv Sena and opposition parties had taken objections on the EVMs. The BJP also won five state assembly election recently and the BSP supremo Mayawati had also raised doubts on the EVMs though the CEC had refuted all these charges. On this backdrop, Somaiya had demanded the issuance of receipt to voters after casting their votes.
