Mumbai's seven reservoirs have registered a slight increase in water levels as monsoon rainfall begins to intensify across the region. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the combined water stock rose from 8.12 per cent on Thursday, July 2.
The city's reservoirs now hold 1,17,532 million litres (ML) of usable water against their total live storage capacity of 14,47,363 ML. This is an increase from 1,03,871 ML (7.18%) recorded a day earlier.
The Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Modak Sagar and Tansa reservoir group currently stands at 8.35 per cent of its useful live storage capacity.
Despite the recent rise, reservoir levels remain below normal for this time of the year.
While current storage is higher than in 2024, it is significantly lower than last year, highlighting the need for sustained monsoon rainfall in the coming weeks.
Most reservoir catchment areas received little rainfall during the past 24 hours, with only isolated light showers reported. However, with monsoon activity expected to strengthen across Mumbai and adjoining regions, reservoir levels are likely to witness a steady rise in the coming days.
