Former Indian cricketer, Lalchand Rajput was appointed as the head coach of Zimbabwe Cricket Team on May 17, Thursday. He succeeded Heath Streak, the former Zimbabwe pacer who was sacked in March after the team failed to qualify for the World Cup 2019.

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) in its official statement said, “Lalchand Rajput will be taking up his responsibilities with immediate effect before the upcoming tri-series with Australia and Pakistan.”

Rajput said that the cricket board has approached him on May 16 and he was pleased to take the responsibility as the head coach of the Zimbabwe team. Earlier, Rajput also served as the team manager for Team India during the 2007 T-20 World Cup. The former cricketer has also played two Test Matches and four One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for India. He was the head coach for Team Afghanistan in 2016.

Rajput is expected to take charge by July.
