IPL 2018: Mumbai Indians win by 13 runs in a do-or-die match

In a do-or-die encounter, Mumbai Indians locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Defending 182, Mumbai Indians were off to a good start as they dismissed both the openers by the 4th over at the score of 29 runs. Robin Uthappa was dropped on four and encashing the opportunity, Uthappa scored his first fifty of IPL 2018. Nitish Rana and Robin Uthappa built a partnership of 84 runs and eased the chase for the Knights.

Mumbai Indians kept themselves in the game by taking wickets at regular intervals. Knight Riders needed 37 runs in the last two overs. But Mumbai Indians bowlers ensured that they defended the target and led Mumbai to their victory.

Hardik Pandya was impressive with the ball and bagged two wickets.

Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Mumbai Indians openers, Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis played aggressively from the beginning and extracted 56 runs in the powerplay. The opening partnership of 91 runs set the stage for Mumbai Indians to put up a huge target.

Opener Suryakumar was the leading run-scorer for Mumbai Indians and scored his fourth fifty of the season against his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders. Suryakumar played a crucial inning of 59 off 39 before he lost his wicket to Andre Russell. A late inning of 35 in 20 by Hardik Pandya helped Mumbai reach the total of 181. Other than the opening partnership, no other batsmen built any significant partnership for Mumbai.

Kolkata bowlers, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine bagged two wickets each.

Currently, Hardik Pandya holds the Purple Cap with 14 wickets to his account.
