In a historic milestone for Mumbai as a city and as an emotion, Thursday marks Mumbai’s 500th Ranji trophy match. Mumbai Cricket Association will play Baroda on November 9, at Wankhede to mark the milestone.

Except for Rohit Sharma, everyone else is available and raring to go.

Young-gun Prithvi Shaw turns 18, coinciding with Mumbai’s historic day. Captain Aditya Tare is likely to open the batting along with the young prodigy.

In a statement to The Hindu, one of Mumbai’s greatest cricketing sons, Sunil Gavaskar said: “It’s a tremendous achievement to get to the 500th Ranji Trophy-match mark. It would be interesting to find out how many of those matches, Mumbai has won, which will be a pretty high percentage and that will probably tell you why it has won the Ranji Trophy so many times.’’
