An 18-year-old youth was rescued by neighbours after he allegedly attempted to die by suicide by jumping from the balcony of a residential building in Dahisar East on Wednesday. The incident was reportedly triggered by prolonged emotional distress caused by frequent arguments between his parents and repeated taunts over being unemployed.
According to police, the youth, a resident of Malad, had been struggling with mental stress due to regular fights between his parents. He was also allegedly criticised by family members for not having a job. Distressed by the situation, he went to his aunt's house in Jan Kalyan Nagar, Dahisar East, where he climbed onto the balcony railing and attempted to jump.
Alert neighbours noticed the incident and rushed to the spot. They pulled the youth back to safety moments before he could jump, preventing a tragedy. A video of the rescue has gone viral on social media.
Police arrived at the scene after receiving information about the incident and have launched an investigation. The youth is currently undergoing counselling.
