A 36-year-old woman died after her husband pushed her in front of a moving local train at Mulund railway station on Saturday morning, March 14. The Kurla Government Railway Police said the accused has been arrested and a murder case has been registered.

The incident took place around 10:45 am on platform number 1. Commuters informed the stationmaster that a woman had been shoved onto the tracks in front of a local train heading towards Thane. Police reached the spot and found the woman seriously injured. She was taken to the Government Hospital in Mulund, where doctors declared her dead.

The deceased was identified as Pushpa Raju Gupta, a resident of Gaushala Road in Ramgarh, Mulund (West). Her identity was confirmed after a man claiming to be her brother was found at the scene. In February, Pushpa had filed another non-cognisable complaint against her husband at the Mulund police station.

After that incident, she went to Uttar Pradesh and decided not to return to Mumbai. Her elder son was preparing for his Class 10 examinations in Uttar Pradesh. However, her brother Kamlesh Kumar returned home on leave and brought her and the boy back to Mumbai on March 14 in an attempt to resolve the arguments between the couple.

On the morning of the incident, the couple had another argument. After which, Pushpa had gone to the Mulund (West) police station and filed a non-cognisable complaint against her husband under Sections 115(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The brother said he realised he had left his army identity card at his sister’s house before they were to leave for Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. When he went back to get it, the accused locked him inside the house and left for the station with Pushpa.

Neighbours later heard his calls for help and opened the door. He then rushed to Mulund station, where he learnt about his sister’s death.

Police said CCTV footage from the station shows the accused forcing Pushpa onto the tracks as a train approached. An officer said the video clearly shows the woman hitting the train’s buffer and then being struck by the moving train. The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
