Anuj Thapan custodial death case: Judicial inquiry with CID Conducted

A judicial inquiry is being conducted with the State Crime Investigation Department (CID) in the case of Anuj Thapan, an accused in the Salman Khan firing case, who committed suicide in police custody. Further action will be taken after the report of CID in this matter.

Shockingly, four security guards were posted for security in the cell. Sagar Pal (21), Vici Kumar Gupta (24), Sonukumar Bishnoi (35) and Anuj Thapan were arrested by the crime branch in connection with the firing at the house of Bollywood actor Salman Khan in Bandra. The accused Gupta, Pal and Thapan, were kept in the custody of the Mumbai Police Commissionerate by the Crime Branch. Anuj Thapan was kept in the cell of Mumbai Police Commissionerate. Accused of the Economic Crime Branch and Crime Branch were kept together there. Four policemen were deployed for security and surveillance.

Thapan committed suicide by hanging himself with the help of a torn piece of carpet in a window in the toilet of the cell between twelve and one in the afternoon on Wednesday. Thapan's custodial death has been registered at Azad Maidan police station. The CCTV footage has been seized by the CID. Also, all the accused in custody will be interrogated. The CID is investigating under Section 174 of the CrPC Act.

Apart from this, a judicial inquiry is being conducted under Section 176 of the CrPC Act. An autopsy was conducted at the Sir J J hospital on Thursday afternoon. The samples have been sent to the forensic laboratory for further examination. The CID has taken possession of the CCTV footage from the cell and started further investigation. An officer said that action will be taken against the culprits after receiving the report from the CID.

Anuj Thapan was the accused on the police record. He was arrested by the local police in Punjab before being arrested by the Mumbai police. Necessary information related to the crime was obtained by interrogating him. Also, he had more inquiries pending. He was cooperating well with the investigation, an official said.
