It’s definitely good news for Mumbai but a hunky-dory situation for India as criminal incidents in Mumbai take a plunge as stated in the National Crime Records Bureau report 2016. While Delhi remains at the top of the 'unsafe city' list, it has a new addition with Bengaluru taking the second spot which is certainly not a conjecture.
Among 19 cities, Mumbai has now sunk to the third place for offences registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Along with losing this despicable rank for the first time in the previous two years, Mumbai has also been recorded as a city having a lower crime rate per one lakh population than Delhi and Bengaluru and is now behind Kochi (2nd), Nagpur (8th), and Pune (12th) at the 15th position.
Among states, Maharashtra now ranks third behind Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Mumbai now has five times lesser cases of crime than the crime capital on India, Delhi and four times lesser cases than Bengaluru.
Street crime in the metropolis has been on a keen check, as told by DGP Satish Mathur. It’s only because of increased patrolling and strict use of stringent IPC sections that Mumbaikars can now finally heave a sigh of relief.
