On Saturday, December 19, Kurla Nehru Nagar Police arrested five people, also detaining a minor, who were reportedly celebrating the birthday of Sameeruddin Ansari, who used a sword to cut the cake.

Moreover, the ones who were celebrating were allegedly seen without masks, further flouting the social distancing norms, during the outbreak of the coronavirus. In a video that went viral, a youth was seen in his 20s using a fire flame stick in his mouth and later cutting six cakes with a sword at 12:05 AM.

According to sources, Sameeruddin Ansari lives in the Alidada Estate area of Zam Zam Bakery Street, Nehru Nagar, Kurla. The others who were arrested along with Ansari are Mohammad Asif Samiullah Idrisi aged 19, Tawfiq Rafiq Sheikh aged 22, Arbaaz Ayub Sheikh aged 23, Misam Abbas Ashraf Hussain Syed aged 19 and Aman Tanveer Sheikh aged 19. Meanwhile, an offence under Section 37 (1), (a) 135 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered for violating the arms ban order of Hon'ble Commissioner of Police by cutting a cake with an unlicensed sword.

On the other hand, back in July, a 25-year-old man was arrested for cutting his birthday cake with a sword and for violating the social distancing norms. In response, the Police had booked 30 people for violating social distancing norms.
