Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the crime rate has not increased in the state, instead, it has decreased over a period of time. He stated, that the state's law and order is maintained properly and preventive measures have also been taken by the home department to lower the crime rate.
CM Fadnavis was replying to the questions raised by the leaders of opposition in the legislative assembly regarding the law and order in Maharashtra.
Fadnavis added that the state has made Mumbai police techno-savvy and citizens' security will be its top-most priority.

Initially, police used to file a missing report in terms of mobile theft cases but now police register it as a theft case, said CM.
He also touched upon rape cases where he mentioned that amendments were made in 2013, in the Indian Penal Code in terms of rape, where initially, while registering crime, police used to report it as sexual misconduct but now, it is registered as a rape case. Because of this, registration of rape cases have increased and conviction rates have also increased, said CM.
He also clarified that, just because Maharashtra ranks 13th in women related crimes and 15th in rape cases, it is a misunderstanding that Maharashtra ranks in the top position for the same.

The CM further added that every district will get its own mobile forensic unit. Along with this, digitisation of forensic labs, digitisation of government prosecutor's office, facility to dial 112, E-challan projects will help the police force to work efficiently and will bring in transparency.
CM also touched upon the traffic issue mentioning that the state will set up intelligent traffic management system in the city which will ease the traffic and help traffic constables to prosecute the offenders. Also, visited management system will be set up in every police station which will improve the communication with common man.
The state to build 40,000 houses for police
The state government has given priority to the provision of constructing houses for police. Until now, 4,000 homes have been built and are ready for the policemen.
CM said that the tenders for 1216 houses have been invited and 6,000 houses will be built through private participation. A provision of 40,000 houses has been planned for the police.
