In the wake of the shocking Nasrapur child abuse and murder case, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that those convicted in sexual offence cases should not be granted parole, signalling a tougher stance on crimes against women and children.
The decision follows widespread outrage over the incident in Nasrapur, Pune district, where a minor girl was sexually assaulted and murdered, triggering protests across the state.
During a cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister instructed the law and judiciary department to frame stricter provisions to prevent such offenders from being released on parole. The move is aimed at closing legal loopholes, as officials noted that a significant number of repeat offenders commit crimes while out on parole.
The government is now considering bringing in a new legal framework to ensure that those convicted in serious sexual offences remain behind bars and do not get temporary release.
The directive comes amid growing public anger and demands for stricter punishment, with the state also pushing for fast-track trials and maximum penalties in such cases.
