A 78-year-old man was cheated of eight and a half lakh rupees by pretending to get nine lakh rupees for a five rupee coin bearing the image of Vaishnav Devi. Following a complaint in this matter, the police have registered a case under Information Technology Prevention Act against an unknown person.

He has a hobby of collecting old coins. On June 26, he saw an advertisement on Facebook by a person named Sanjeev Kumar. It contained a five rupee coin with a picture of Vaishnav Devi. It was said in the advertisement that you will get nine lakh rupees for that coin. So he contacted Sanjeev Kumar on his mobile phone.

A few days after the complainant agreed to take the coin and sell it again, Sanjeev Kumar asked for his Aadhaar card and photograph. He was then asked to send some amount for GST registration.

Despite sending this amount, Sanjeev Kumar did not send the five rupee coin with the picture of Vaishnavdevi. As soon as the old man realised that he had been duped, he informed the police about the incident.

Following their complaint, the police have registered a case against an unknown person under Information Technology Prevention Act including fraud. The complainant has given the details of the deposited amount to the police and based on that, the police have started an investigation.
