Union Home Ministry has maintained its ban on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). The ministry banned the organisation for another five years stating that it is a threat to the nation.
Earlier in 2014, the Narendra Modi government decided to continue the ban on SIMI. In the past, the government had claimed that SIMI members have carried out terrorists acts and the organisation was banned in 2001.
According to the Home Ministry, the banned organisation can be a threat to the security of the country in the coming future. SIMI is also a threat to the communal harmony of this country. Therefore, SIMI organisation has been banned for another five years.

Earlier in 2008, the ban on SIMI was lifted on the basis of special jurisdiction. However, the decision was challenged against in Supreme Court after a few days and the ban was imposed again. In 2014, the government banned SIMI again for five years.
