In Vakola, a man fatally attacked his wife and daughter with a knife during a domestic dispute. A 15-year-old girl was killed and her wife was seriously injured in the attack. The incident took place in Vakola, Santacruz, on Thursday evening. A search is on for the husband, who fled after the attack.
According to the information provided by the Vakola police, the accused, Suleman Hujra (41), lived with his wife Nasima and daughter Ashagari (15) in the Shivnagar area of Vakola. He is a painter and his wife Nasima works as a labourer. The couple constantly had arguments over financial matters.
Suleman and Nasima had a heated argument on Thursday night. In a fit of anger, Suleman attacked his wife and daughter with a knife in the house. Both were seriously injured in the attack. Suleiman fled, leaving the both.
Neighbours informed the Vakola police about the death of the daughter and injured wife. The police admitted the injured Nasima and daughter Ashagari to the hospital. However, while Ashgari died, Naseem's condition is critical.
Search for the attacker's husband is underway. Vakola police have registered a murder case against the accused Suleman Hujra in this case. Police teams have been deployed to search for him. The incident has created a stir in the area.
Increase in domestic violence
There is a steady increase in domestic violence in Mumbai. According to the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), there has been a 48 percent increase in domestic violence incidents in 2023 compared to 2022.
