A special NIA court in Mumbai has framed charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), along with charges of murder and criminal conspiracy, against former Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze and nine other accused in the 2021 Antilia bomb scare and Mansukh Hiren murder case.
The case began on February 25, 2021, when an explosives-laden SUV was found parked outside Antilia, the Mumbai residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani. The vehicle belonged to businessman Mansukh Hiren, who was found dead a few days later. Investigators allege that Hiren was murdered because he had knowledge of the conspiracy behind the bomb scare.
The accused include dismissed police officers Sachin Waze, Pradeep Sharma, Sunil Mane, and several others. After examining the evidence submitted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the court found sufficient grounds to proceed with the trial and framed charges under the UAPA, the Indian Penal Code, and other applicable laws.
All ten accused pleaded not guilty and denied the allegations. With the charges now formally framed, the court has directed that the trial proceed. This marks a significant development in one of Maharashtra's most high-profile criminal cases, more than five years after the alleged conspiracy and the murder of Mansukh Hiren.
