The Mumbai Crime Branch has launched a crackdown on individuals allegedly practising medicine without recognised medical qualifications or valid licences. In separate raids, police and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials uncovered five clinics where people were allegedly treating patients despite having no registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council.
The accused were reportedly charging patients for consultations and treatment, raising serious concerns over public safety and the risks associated with unqualified medical practice.
Acting on credible information, teams from Crime Branch Units 6 and 8, along with BMC medical officers, conducted raids at clinics in Zakir Hussain Nagar, Deonar and Naupada-Bandra East.
During the operations, officials allegedly found the accused examining patients and administering medicines without the required medical credentials.

According to investigators, none of the accused could produce a valid medical licence or registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council. Police allege that they falsely presented themselves as qualified doctors and treated patients for various illnesses.
Authorities seized medicines and medical equipment from the clinics during the raids. The confiscated material reportedly included injections, bottles, syringes and antibiotic tablets.
The total value of the seized items was estimated at around ₹1.19 lakh.
Cases have been registered at Deonar Police Station and Nirmal Nagar Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
In a related case, police and BMC officials arrested a 56-year-old man who allegedly operated a clinic in the Ghas Bazar area of Navpada, Bandra East, using forged medical certificates.
The incident came to light on the night of August 10, 2026, after Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 8 received information about suspected illegal medical practice at Dr Aftab Khan Clinic, also known as Raza Clinic.
A team comprising BMC Assistant Medical Officer Dr Trinalli Sanjay Shiktode and police officials conducted a surprise inspection at around 9.30 pm. Four patients were reportedly waiting at the clinic at the time of the raid.
The person running the clinic, identified as Mohammed Aftab Sokim Khan (56), allegedly produced certificates claiming to have been issued by the Maharashtra Council of Indian Medicine and the All India Ayurveda Vidyapeeth.
However, during verification and questioning, BMC officials allegedly found that Khan did not hold a recognised medical degree and was only a Class 12 pass.

According to the BMC complaint, Khan had no legal authority to prescribe medicines, administer injections or use medical equipment such as a nebuliser for treating patients.
Based on Dr Shiktode's complaint, police detained Khan and registered a case alleging illegal medical practice, cheating and conduct that allegedly endangered patients' lives.
The investigation into the alleged fake doctor network and the use of forged medical documents is continuing.
