A forensic report has detected the presence of MDMA (ecstasy) and alcohol in the blood samples of a 28-year-old man who died after falling ill during a music concert at the NSCI Dome in Worli, intensifying the police investigation into the incident.
The man had attended the concert on June 6 with friends. He reportedly began feeling unwell during the event and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. A woman accompanying him also fell ill and was hospitalised before being discharged after treatment.
According to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, traces of MDMA and alcohol were found in the deceased's samples. Investigators, however, said the quantity of the drug was not considered fatal, and the exact cause of death is yet to be established.
Mumbai Police are now investigating how the victim obtained the narcotic and whether it was consumed before arriving at the venue or elsewhere. Officers will review statements from his friends, examine his mobile phone records and continue efforts to trace the source of the drug.
Police said there is currently no evidence to suggest that drugs were being sold inside the concert venue. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities awaiting further medical findings to determine the precise cause of death.
