The incident took place around 6:50–7:00 pm at a house in Dighe Chawl near Vakola Bridge. The blast reportedly happened while repair work was being carried out on a gas stove and cylinder.
The explosion was so strong that the shockwave was felt in nearby buildings. An elderly man sitting outside the house was thrown off his seat due to the impact. Fortunately, he sustained only minor injuries.
Four people were injured in the blast, including a gas mechanic who was assisting with the repair. Some of the injured suffered serious burn injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, with a few later shifted to Sion Hospital for further care.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade responded promptly and brought the fire under control. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion, including whether a gas leak or mishandling led to the incident.
