An eight-year-old boy was killed after being struck by an Innova Crysta in Mumbai’s Bandra West on Sunday afternoon. Police have arrested the SUV driver, identified as 45-year-old nutritionist and entrepreneur Megha Rawal.
The accident occurred around 2.15 pm near Jijamata Garden on John Baptist Road. According to preliminary information, the child, identified as Ansh Gupta, was crossing the road when the vehicle hit him.
The boy sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Holy Family Hospital in the same vehicle. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police have registered a case against Rawal and are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area and other evidence to determine the vehicle’s speed and establish whether the driver was using a mobile phone at the time of the accident.
Police said further investigation is underway, and additional details will be established after examining the available evidence.
