It has been revealed from the investigation conducted in this regard that Nazim had worked for three and a half years in the Dammam province of Saudi Arabia. Earlier in Saudi Arabia, the police arrested him in a case related to passport due to which he remained in jail for a period of 18 days. He was later sent back to India and is now in the custody of Uttar Pradesh Police.

Following the inquiries that have been conducted, the investigating officers claimed that Najim Shamshad Shah, a suspected member of the ISIS, arrested him in the last week's proceedings across the country, and was inspired by some online video promoting spoof about Shah Jihad. Moreover, an anti-terrorism squad (ATS) official said that after watching some video clips on Facebook, Najim got inspired by jihadist ideas and therefore he started chatting about it.
