Powai police have arrested 25-year-old Sharif Ansari for stealing expensive bicycles from the parking lots of elite housing societies. So far, he has stolen 17 expensive bicycles.
Few days ago, Powai police received various complaints of bicycle theft from Andheri, Powai, and Jogeshwari. Meanwhile, Marol resident Juizar Bharmal (48) had filed a complaint with the Powai police saying that on June 10, at around 4:00 pm, a bicycle costing ₹18,000 had been stolen from their building premises.
According to the police, Ansari was well-spoken and used to dress well. His modus operandi would involve speaking in English with the security guards and after gaining entry into the building, he would steal a bicycle and escape.
While patrolling, police saw accused Sharif Ansari roaming suspiciously in Powai. When the police confronted him, he fled. However, the local residents soon caught him and handed him over to the cops. During an interrogation, he admitted that he had stolen 17 bicycles in Jogeshwari, Andheri, Powai, Marol Naka, J B Nagar, MIDC in the last three months.
