In 2025, official data revealed a worrying rise in crimes against women and minors within the Thane Police Commissionerate limits. Between January 1 and December 31, 2025, a total of 516 sexual assault cases and 813 molestation cases were registered.

Sexual Assault Data and Ground Reality

Out of the 516 sexual assault cases:

  • 302 cases involved minor girls below 18 years of age

  • 214 cases involved women above 18 years

A shocking incident in the Naupada area, where a 7-year-old girl was assaulted by a 45-year-old man in an under-construction building, triggered widespread outrage. There have been strong demands for strict action against the accused.

Zone-wise Distribution of Cases

The distribution of crimes across different areas under the commissionerate shows varying levels of severity, with the Thane–Diva belt emerging as the most affected:

  • Thane to Diva (Zones 1 and 5) – 185 cases

  • Dombivli and Kalyan – 125 cases

  • Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, and Badlapur – 128 cases

  • Bhiwandi – 78 cases

  • Total – 516 cases

These figures raise serious concerns about the safety of women and minors, posing a significant challenge for law enforcement and public safety systems.
