In 2025, official data revealed a worrying rise in crimes against women and minors within the Thane Police Commissionerate limits. Between January 1 and December 31, 2025, a total of 516 sexual assault cases and 813 molestation cases were registered.
Out of the 516 sexual assault cases:
302 cases involved minor girls below 18 years of age
214 cases involved women above 18 years
A shocking incident in the Naupada area, where a 7-year-old girl was assaulted by a 45-year-old man in an under-construction building, triggered widespread outrage. There have been strong demands for strict action against the accused.
The distribution of crimes across different areas under the commissionerate shows varying levels of severity, with the Thane–Diva belt emerging as the most affected:
Thane to Diva (Zones 1 and 5) – 185 cases
Dombivli and Kalyan – 125 cases
Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, and Badlapur – 128 cases
Bhiwandi – 78 cases
Total – 516 cases
These figures raise serious concerns about the safety of women and minors, posing a significant challenge for law enforcement and public safety systems.
