A 31-year-old jawan of the Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF), Vikas Lahu Gore, lost his life in a road accident after his motorcycle hit a large pothole on the Mumbai–Nashik Highway in Shahapur taluka.
The accident occurred near the Bharangi River bridge while Gore was travelling to work on his Royal Enfield motorcycle. Police said he lost control of the bike after striking a pothole and crashed into the road divider. Local residents rushed him to the Shahapur Sub-District Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Gore, a resident of Bamane village in Shahapur, had been serving with the TDRF since 2019. He was among the personnel involved in the evacuation and rescue operation following the recent building collapse in Bhiwandi, where emergency teams worked to evacuate residents and assist those trapped under the debris.
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who blamed the poor condition of the highway and demanded immediate repairs to dangerous potholes. The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and infrastructure maintenance during the monsoon season.
