Dadaji Bhuse announces development of 405 schools under Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Adarsh scheme

A significant push to school education in Maharashtra has been initiated with the approval of 405 more schools under the next phase of the Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Adarsh scheme. Through this decision, a broader attempt is being made to improve both learning standards and school infrastructure across the state. The move has been aligned with the larger vision of Viksit Maharashtra 2047, under which long-term improvements in public services and human development are being prioritised. It has been indicated by the state government that better educational opportunities are expected to be created for students through this expansion.

The decision has been presented as an effort through which the physical and academic condition of schools can be upgraded in a balanced way. It has been stated by School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse that equal and quality learning opportunities are intended to be provided to students in rural as well as urban areas. By this measure, gaps in educational access are sought to be reduced, while the standard of school facilities is also planned to be strengthened. It has been suggested that a more inclusive and better-equipped schooling environment will be made available to children across different districts.

Attention has also been drawn to the progress already made in the earlier stage of the scheme. In the first phase, 478 schools had already been selected, and work in those institutions was said to have reached the final stage. With 405 more schools now being added, the reach of the programme is being widened considerably. As a result, benefits are expected to be extended to a much larger number of students, and improved academic as well as physical facilities are likely to be introduced in more schools.

Under the newly approved phase, various categories of schools are being brought into the scheme. It has been directed that a detailed development plan should be prepared for every selected school. Through these individual plans, continuous and quality education from Class 1 to Class 10 is intended to be ensured. In this way, the scheme is not being treated merely as an infrastructure project, but as a wider educational reform effort.

Strong emphasis is also being placed on student-friendly facilities. Separate toilets for boys and girls are to be provided, while clean drinking water arrangements are to be strengthened. RO or UV filtration systems are also planned to be installed so that safe water can be made available on school premises. In addition, special priority is to be given to the creation of Pink Rooms for girl students. Through these facilities, greater attention is being given to hygiene, safety, comfort, and dignity within the school environment.

A sports development component has also been included in the scheme. It has been decided that at least one model school in every district will be developed as a sports academy. By doing so, students’ all-round growth is sought to be encouraged, and education is being viewed beyond classroom teaching alone. According to the government resolution, the required funds for the project are to be distributed district-wise through the Director of Education (Primary). Through this large-scale expansion, a stronger and more equitable school system is being envisioned for Maharashtra.
