52000 students to be given health cards: Desai

Mumbai - As many as 52,000 students from Class 8 to 10 of the municipal corporation schools will undergo blood group and blood test to be conducted jointly under the aegis of Akhil Bharatiya Sthanik Swarajya Sanstha and Parents Association of Thalassemia, informed Subhash Desai, state industries minister and guardian minister for Mumbai city, here in a press conference. These students will also be given computerised health cards, he added. In all, 18 health tests like Anemia, Thalassemia, blood test etc will be done on students in four phases. This information will be added in students’ health cards so that it will come in handy for them in future. These tests will be examined at Andheri-based main laboratory and if any student is found with serious ailment, the organizers will bear the expenditure of their treatment, Desai informed. Pankaj Udhas, president of Parents Association of Thalassemia, said that their second branch has been started in Nashik and the association has vowed to eradicate anemia and thalassemia from the country.
