With demand for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-run CBSE schools exceeding available seats, the civic body has decided to expand capacity by adding new divisions to five schools across the city.
A CBSE school in Borivali will add a fourth division to its existing three, while schools in Ghatkopar, Chembur, Govandi, and Vikhroli will each open a third division. Typically, each classroom can accommodate approximately 40 students.
This move comes after a sudden surge in applications, reflecting a clear shift among parents toward national-board education within the public education system.
Teachers' Opinion
Teachers say its attraction lies in its combination of affordability, continuity, and infrastructure. Mohammad Zeeshan, principal of MPS Natwar Parekh CBSE School in Govandi, said, "In BMC schools, parents get free national-board education, which is a big incentive. The availability of schooling up to Class 10 and well-developed infrastructure also helps attract and retain students."
