Even though the admissions for Engineering and other professional courses have begun, Maharashtra Education Minister Vinod Tawde announced in the Legislative Assembly after the Question Hour that Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) certificates won't be a compulsion for students seeking admission in that category.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday, June 26. This move will benefit the students of Maratha Community, who have recently been categorised under SEBC.

Vinod Tawde further said that they are falling short of staff to issue the caste certificate and hence it is not compulsory for submitting the certificates to the institution until further notice.
Notably, In November 2018, the Government had passed a bill granting 16 per cent reservation for Maratha Community in the Education sector and Government jobs.
