As per the Right To Education Act, 25 per cent seats are reserved for poor and children in need in schools. Following which, on March 13, 2018, the education department will announce the admission lottery to confirm the RTE admissions. The lottery will be announced around 3:00 pm at education officer's office in Hindu Colony, Dadar.
In Mumbai, 347 schools have declared 8,374 seats which have been reserved under RTE and so far, 10,628 children have applied. Parents who have won the seat under the RTE Act will receive an SMS, after which, parents will have to enroll their children’s name in the said school.
As per the education department, compared to last year, this year, there is a 17.9 per cent hike in the number of seats available under the RTE Act. This year, parents have more options as 347 schools have declared 8,374 seats. Last year, there were only 7,099 seats available for 9,426 applications.
The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act or Right to Education Act (RTE), is an Act of the Parliament of India which was enacted on August 4, 2009. This act describes the modalities of the importance of free and compulsory education for children between the age group 6 and 14 in India under Article 21a of the Indian Constitution.
When the act came into force on April 1, 2010, India became one of the 135 countries to make education a fundamental right of every child.
