It’s worth noting that Maharashtra School Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad has previously said that the exams are likely to be conducted by May while she also talked about the possibility of conducting the exams offline, bringing a huge sigh of relief for students concerned with online examinations.

The pushing of the examinations to May is a big shift compared to the usual dates of Feb-March for the HSC and SSC examinations. However, teachers have asked the government to plan in advance. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has announced a 25 per cent reduction to the standard syllabus.

“There is uncertainty about when the exams will be held, but the government must prepare and plan for any changes that would be required this year. The paper pattern may be tweaked, or the time duration of an exam may be changed. These changes must be planned in advance so that students and schools are not hassled at the last minute,” a teacher from a suburban school said while speaking to TOI

Around 17 lakh students appear for SSC examinations each year while around 13 lakh students write HSC exams. Chairperson of the board, Shakuntala Kale said that the paper pattern is unlikely to change given that it was revamped recently. She added that the timetable will be decided soon.
