State TET 2026 Postponed After Alleged Question Paper Leak

A major disruption has been caused to Maharashtra's teacher recruitment process after the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 was postponed following the detection of an alleged question paper leak just one day before the examination was scheduled to be conducted. The development has once again placed the security of competitive examinations under intense scrutiny, with concerns being raised over the effectiveness of existing safeguards designed to protect the integrity of recruitment tests.

Three individuals have been arrested by the Bhiwandi Police in connection with the alleged leak. The accused have been identified as Rajiv Shah and Akash Kumar, both residents of Bihar, along with Dheeraj Kumar from Haryana. It has been stated that investigations are being carried out to determine whether a larger interstate network was involved in accessing and distributing confidential examination material. The investigation is being supervised by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Pawan Bansode.

The TET examination had been scheduled to be conducted on June 28, 2026, at 1,028 examination centres across Maharashtra. However, action was initiated after intelligence inputs suggested that the question paper may have been leaked before the examination. Acting on confidential information, a police team conducted a raid in Bhiwandi during the early hours of Saturday. During the operation, suspected examination material was recovered, and the contents were subsequently compared with the original question paper. It was confirmed during verification that several questions matched the official paper, strengthening suspicions that the examination had been compromised.

Following the preliminary findings, a criminal case was registered and a detailed investigation was launched into what is believed to be an organised examination racket. Attention is now being focused on identifying the source of the leak, tracing digital evidence, examining financial transactions, and uncovering possible links extending beyond Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) announced that the TET 2026 examination had been postponed in order to safeguard the fairness, transparency, and credibility of the recruitment process. It was stated that conducting the examination despite evidence of a possible leak could have adversely affected thousands of deserving candidates and undermined public confidence in the examination system. A revised examination schedule and updated instructions for candidates have been promised after further progress is made in the investigation.

The incident has been viewed as another reminder of the continuing challenges surrounding examination security in India. Previous controversies involving recruitment and eligibility tests have already heightened public concern, and this latest development has reinforced demands for stronger safeguards, improved digital security, and stricter monitoring of confidential examination material. Meanwhile, additional suspects are being traced, further arrests are anticipated, and members of the public have been urged not to circulate unverified examination content. It has also been warned that stringent legal action will be taken against anyone found to have participated in the leak or distribution of confidential question papers.
