Over 3.5 lakh healthcare workers vaccinated for coronavirus so far in Maharashtra

In a new set of data revealed by the state health department on February 4, a total of 3.5 lakh healthcare workers in Maharashtra have been vaccinated against the coronavirus infection.

According to Principal Secretary, Health Department, Pradeep Vyas out of the total vaccines, there are 3,51,048 Covshields vials and 3,545 Covaxin vials in it. He made the remarks while presenting the coronavirus review in the state at a cabinet meeting.

Moreover, so far Maharashtra has received 18 lakhs Covshields and 19.72 lakhs Covaxin vials.

He also stated that the state's mortality rate was 2.26 per cent in November, 1.96 per cent in December and 1.63 per cent in January, while the weekly positivity rate was 4.51 per cent.

Although the cases of COVID-19 are declining, cities like Amravati, Yavatmal, Akola, Bhandara, Nandurbar, Wardha, Ratnagiri, Gadchiroli, Nanded have the highest weekly growth rate. Besides, the number of tests is low. Therefore, it needs more attention, said Vyas.

In the UK, 1820 deaths occurred on the same day on January 20, while in Brazil, 1,000 deaths occur every day. There are 50,000 patients in Brazil every day. After June-July, the number of patients in these countries were very low due to the introduction of group immunity. But four to five months later, another strain of coronavirus was found, which was capable of spreading infections 70 per cent rapidly.

According to a recent study, this strain is not only dangerous for the rapid spread of the infection, but it can cause up to 40 per cent more deaths, said Pradeep Vyas.
