MU Reschedules 28 Exams After CET Schedule Clash

Several undergraduate examinations at the University of Mumbai have been rescheduled after a conflict was identified between the university’s exam timetable and the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) schedule. The revision has been announced in order to ensure that students appearing for both university examinations and competitive entrance tests are not inconvenienced by overlapping dates.

A total of 28 examination papers across different undergraduate courses have been affected by the change. It has been explained by university officials that the institution’s academic calendar had been released earlier as per its usual planning process. However, tentative dates for CET entrance examinations had also been announced by the Maharashtra CET Cell in November of the previous year. After the final CET schedule was formally confirmed, it was determined that certain university examination dates coincided with the entrance test calendar. As a result, the university examination timetable has been revised.

The CET examination season is expected to begin with the Bachelor of Education entrance test on March 27. This will be followed by the Master of Computer Applications CET scheduled for March 30. The entrance examination for the three-year law programme is set to be conducted on April 1 and April 2. Meanwhile, entrance examinations for postgraduate management programmes such as Master of Business Administration and Master of Management Studies are scheduled to take place between April 6 and April 8.

Concerns had been raised by students after it was noticed that several third-year examinations in the arts, commerce and science streams were scheduled on the same dates as the entrance tests. The overlap had created uncertainty among students who intended to appear for both examinations. Following these concerns, the examination timetable was reviewed and modifications were introduced by the university administration.

Under the revised schedule, the fifth-semester Bachelor of Commerce examination that had earlier been planned for March 27 will now be conducted on April 4. A number of third-year examinations, including those for Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia and Mass Communication, have been shifted from March 27 to April 9. Some papers conducted by the university’s distance and online education department have also been moved to the same date.

Additional adjustments have also been announced. Examinations that were originally scheduled for March 30 will now be conducted on April 10. Papers earlier planned for April 1, April 2 and April 4 have been rescheduled to April 11, April 13 and April 15 respectively. Furthermore, some sixth-semester examinations in science and mass communication that had been scheduled for April 8 will now be held on April 16. Through these changes, it has been ensured that students will be able to participate in both university examinations and CET entrance tests without facing scheduling conflicts. The revised timetable has been released by the university so that students can plan their preparations accordingly.
