The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has released a list of unauthorised schools operating within its jurisdiction for the academic year 2026–27.
According to the civic body’s education department, these schools were found to be functioning without obtaining approval from the Maharashtra government or the NMMC as of March 31, 2026.
The corporation stated that operating a school without official recognition is a violation of Section 18 of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, which prohibits the establishment or operation of schools without proper approval.
Five schools have been identified as unauthorised:
Al Momin School, Artist Village, Sector 8B, CBD Belapur — run by Ismail Education Trust, Mumbai. The matter is currently sub judice under Writ Petition No. 6565/2023.
Ikra International and Maktab School, Sector 27, Nerul — operated by Global Education Trust, Agripada, Mumbai.
Agnal Pre-Primary Convent School, House No. 296, Sector 12D, Khairane Gaon, Koparkhairane — run by Excellence Charitable Trust.
Vishwabharati School, Plot No. 1, Sector 2, Koparkhairane — managed by Gurudas Seva Samiti. The school is authorised only up to Class 5, while Classes 6 to 8 are being run without approval.
Christ the King Secondary School, Plot No. 66, near D-Mart, Sector 15, Koparkhairane — operated by Kingdom Welfare Charity and Convent. The school has approval up to Class 7, but Class 8 is unauthorised.
The NMMC has directed the management of these schools to coordinate with parents and transfer students to nearby government-approved municipal or private schools for further education. The civic body also instructed the institutions to shut down classes being run without permission.
Parents have been urged not to seek fresh admissions in these unauthorised schools. Those who have already enrolled their children in such institutions have been advised to cancel the admissions and shift students to recognised schools to avoid academic loss.
