The Mumbai High Court has ordered the Maharashtra government to ensure the safety of children in school buses and vans. They also said that there must be two female attendants in every bus who will look after the students.

This observation was made by a Division Bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice Nitin Jamdar. The judges were hearing the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) forum which had challenged the government's decision to bring in smaller buses that could enter lanes and bylanes. They said that if smaller cans are introduced, they can topple anytime.
