This year, the Meteorological Department has forecasted ample rain in Mumbai. Accordingly, there will be high tides for 28 days during monsoon along with 12 days of neap tides.
Every year, when it rains, the city faces trouble due to lack of rainwater and drainage system management. Earlier, the Storm Water Drain (SWD) department officials said that they had managed to finish 20 per cent of the task. However, they added that the civic body is facing difficulty in finishing the remaining work and this could result in waterlogging during monsoon.
What is Neap Tide?
A tide in which the difference between high and low tide is the least. Neap tides occur twice a month when the sun and moon are at right angles to the Earth. When this is the case, their total gravitational pull on the Earth's water is weakened because it comes from two different directions.
Meanwhile, concerned officials consisting of police officers, Fire Brigade officers, and BMC Disaster Management officials, have been sent a list of the days with high tides and neap tides.
