However, the Sion area is facing significantly worse conditions. The AQI there has reached 308, placing it in the “very poor” category. Air quality at this level is considered very unhealthy, and prolonged exposure can pose health risks, especially for children, elderly people, and individuals with existing respiratory or heart conditions.
The high pollution levels in Sion are largely due to elevated concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 particles, tiny pollutants that can penetrate deep into the lungs, causing breathing difficulties and other respiratory issues.
Other parts of Mumbai, including areas like Kandivali East and Vile Parle West, are experiencing “satisfactory” to “moderate” air quality, helped by wind and breezy conditions that disperse pollutants.
Authorities and experts advise residents in highly polluted areas to limit outdoor activities, use masks if necessary, and take extra care if they have pre-existing health conditions. It is also recommended to keep windows closed and use air purifiers indoors until pollution levels improve.
