On the eve of Cheti Chand festival, a cultural event was organised at Khar Gymkhana by the Shankar Lalwani family. The program began with pooja of Ishtadeva Jhulelal. Special traditional food items were also prepared.
Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar and Sindhi actress Bharti Chhabiya were present on this occassion. Bharati chhabiya said that nowadays Sindhi youngsters do not talk in their mother tongue. She added that the youngsters should take the lead and talk in sindhi.
Cheti Chand is celebrated across India by the Sindhi community as it is the beginning of their new year. This festival is celebrated in the Chaitra month, the day after Gudi Padwa. Sindhi community celebrates the fesival with great fervour and joy. It is celebrated by honouring the birth of Ishtadeva Uderolal who is considered as a saint of the Sindhi's.
