In Maharashtra, 11 people from eight districts lost their lives due to swine flu from January 1 to January 24 this year. Maharashtra Health Minister Eknath Shinde informed that a five-step-programme should be implemented in the state in order to prevent swine flu.
Due to the change in weather, people in Maharashtra have been suffering from the illness. Of the 1,764 people suffering from swine-flu-like illness, 66 were actually diagnosed with swine flu. The situation is intense in Nagpur where 29 cases of swine flu were reported till Jan 24.
In Nashik, 10 cases of swine flu were reported followed by nine cases in Kolhapur, eight cases in Pune, four in Akola, three in Pimpri Chinchwad, two in Thane, and one in Solapur. However, the Maharashtra health official stated that more cases of swine flu disease are expected to be reported.

Shinde has decided to hold a review meeting regarding the same saying that this is a serious matter. In the months between July to September and February to March, the number of such cases increases. The treatment for swine flu is available in all district, state, and civil hospitals.
