Eight private hospitals face action for overpricing stents

Food and Civil supplies minister Girish Bapat informed in Vidhan Parishad of taking action against private hospitals for overcharging stents. He added that action has been taken against eight private hospitals which include Lilavati, Fortis, Kokilaben, Breach Candy, L H Hiranandani, H N hospital and Asian Heart. These hospitals were selling Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 90,000 stents for Rs. 1.50 lakh to Rs. 1.90 lakhs. The state took action against these hospitals according to consumer protection act.

Girish Bapat agreed that, due to lack of staff in FDA, they fail to take action. In order to create awareness regarding the same, rules and number for complaints have been put up in hospitals so that patients will be able to file a complaint.
