According to reports, at least 2,450 more beds will be allotted in private hospitals in view of the spike in cases of coronavirus, as directed by the Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal.

Moreover, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has instructed private hospitals on Friday, March 26 to allot more beds for COVID patients just as it was done in July last year. Even though the number of symptomatic patients who need hospitalisation has not increased more than 20 per cent, the surge in overall cases is so high that there happens to be a possibility of a bed crunch.

Currently, the city has been witnessing more than 3,000 cases every day. As of now, the number of active patients is 25,372 out of which 6,609 are symptomatic and 499 are critical. However, the number of beds occupied is 7,949.

On the other hand, as per sources, about 100-150 patients suffering from COVID-19 are admitted every day to hospitals across the city. The BMC has given the hospitals KB Bhabha Hospital (Bandra), SK Patil Hospital (Malad) in Mumbai, Dr Ambedkar Hospital (Kandivali Shatabdi), Bhagwati Hospital, K.B. Treatment for Corona patients will be resumed at Bhabha (Kurla), Maa Hospital (Chembur), Madan Malviya Hospital (Govandi), Rajawadi Hospital (Ghatkopar) and MT Agarwal (Mulund) instructions to admit patients from Monday by providing beds within two days.

In view of the spike in cases of coronavirus, BMC’s Municipal Commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal had earlier conducted a video conference call with the civic officials urging them to reactivate the isolation and quarantine units which include marriage and community halls and sports centres, among other venues.
